Mentoring to me, is about guiding and supporting someone's growth through shared experiences and encouragement. I see it as a collaborative relationship where I, as a mentor, help my mentee navigate challenges and develop skills. The style we are implementing is one-on-one and we meet weekly or biweekly depending on the needs. These meetings take place in a coworking space in school. At the beginning of the year I was mentoring a teacher that was promoted and my new mentee is the person replacing her. I am going to be her mentor until June when the school year is over. My past experiences, both as mentee and as a mentor have shaped my belief in active listening, patience and adaptability. My motivation to be a mentor is my belief in the power of encouragement and support to help others grow. While mentoring, I expect to learn more about leadership, communication and how to best support others in their journeys. I consider a strong mentoring relationship requires trust, respect, and open communication. A great mentor is patient, understanding, and leads by example. Key values include empathy, integrity, and commitment. I bring strong listening skills, adaptability and encouragement to my mentoring approach. The challenges I think I can face could be balancing different needs and finding the best way to motivate my mentee. My goal for my mentee is to help her build confidence and develop skills fot her success. One valuable piece of advice I've recieved about mentoring is that it's not about having all the answers, but about being a reliable resource of guidance and support.
